Documentary centred on Sir Ernest Shackleton's attempt to cross Antarctica between 1914 and 1916. Having already served under Captain Scott in 1902 and set the record for the furthest distance travelled south in 1908, Shackleton set out just as Britain declared war on Germany, planning to cross Antarctica via the South Pole. However, his mission proved to be an ill-fated expedition as the Endurance became trapped. This collection also includes the following films from around the world about Shackleton and the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration: 'Antarctic Expedition: Sir George Newnes' Farewell to Officers and Crew' (1998), 'Departure of Shackleton's British Antarctic Expedition from Lyttelton, New Zealand' (1908), 'Nihon Nankyoku Tanken' (1912), 'Fram's South Polar Expedition', 'The Home of the Blizzard' (1916), 'Pathé's Animated Gazette No. 140' (1911), 'South - Sir Ernest Shackleton's Glorious Epic of the Antarctic' (1919), 'Topical Budget - Dogs for the Antarctic' (1914), 'Dogs for the Antarctic - Sir Ernest Shackleton's Dogs in Quarantine at Beddington' (1914), 'Captain Davis Returns to Sydney' (1917), 'The Late Sir Ernest Shackleton Bathing Query' (1922), 'El Homenaje Del Uruguay a Los Restos De Sir Ernest Shackleton' (1922), 'Shackleton's Funeral' (1922) and 'Shackleton South Georgia Birds' (1920).
