Classic western drama directed by Howard Hawks. Sheriff John T. Chance (John Wayne) is holding the murderous Joe Burdette (Claude Akins) in his cell while waiting for a magistrate to collect him for trial. Burdette comes from a wealthy family, however, and his associates will stop at nothing to secure his freedom. Chance's only allies are his drunken deputy (Dean Martin), the ageing Stumpy (Walter Brennan) and the young gunslinger, Colorado (Rick Nelson).
