Danny Kaye stars in this WWII comedy in which an American soldier is reluctantly recruited to impersonate a high-ranking British commander. After an attempt is made on the life of General Sir Lawrence Mackenzie-Smith (Kaye), England's military camps are put on lockdown, preventing soldier Ernie Williams (Kaye) from being granted his leave of absence. In an ill-fated attempt at humour, Williams impersonates Mackenzie but attracts the attention of his superiors who decide that his physical resemblance may come in useful in thwarting the German forces from uncovering allied plans. With danger around every corner, will Williams blow his cover?
