The creatures of the Enchanted Wood wait for the prophecy to be fulfilled and the birth of a child with supernatural powers strong enough to defeat the evil sorceress, Hagadora, who has enslaved the elves, sprites, elementals and fairies with her dark magic and soul-stealing spells.
A young, beautiful witch of extraordinary powers gives birth to a girl in a secluded glen, asking the creatures of the Enchanted Wood to protect her daughter, Zoe, from the evil sorceress, Hagadora. Knowledge of the girl's birth spreads quickly and Hagadora, in an attempt to destroy the white witch and her supernatural daughter, send out a banshee to kill them.
Zoe's mother entreats all the creatures of the Enchanted Wood to protect her daughter, then feigning weakness, taunts the banshee and leads the creature away from her daughter, facing certain death.
Cautiously the elementals and all the creatures of the Enchanted Wood approach the baby, unsure of just how to care for a human child, whose birth was foretold in prophecy for eons. They hide Zoe and feed her nectar and sweet fruit, protecting her as she grows into a young maiden of extraordinary beauty and immense supernatural power, whose kindness is known throughout the Enchanted Wood. All of Nature loves Zoe except for Hagadora who learns of her survival and is determined to kill her.
Hagadora is Queen of the Darkness and wherever she goes, death and destruction follow in her wake. She appears indestructible, gathering souls to increase her power and glorying in the slavery she inflicts on the gentle folk of the Enchanted Wood.
Derek of York, a young prince who has known of Zoe all his life, is coveted by Hagadora. Her desire for him is so great that she offers to be his bride, but he refuses her, provoking her jealousy as she realizes that Derek is in love with Zoe. Furious, Hagadora curses him and turns him into a great wolf, casting him into an oubliette surrounded by a great circle, from which he cannot escape. By day he is a strong, handsome knight, but when night falls, he becomes a great wolf, unable to free himself from the oubliette or the circle; a prisoner of the evil Hagadora.
Zoe learns about his fate and enlisting the help of a pious priest, she is determined to free Derek from his curse. She is instructed to ask for help from Giselle de Germane, a water nereid and Giselle tells her that she must destroy Hagadora to break the curse affecting Derek of York.
The battle begins as Zoe, with the aide of the pious priest and under the magical direction of Giselle de Germane seek out the evil Hagadora to defeat her and free the creatures of the Enchanted Wood and break the curse enslaving Derek of York!
