After volunteering in the Battles against the creatures, Connor Hughes now seeks only solitude and sanctuary at his family cabin in the woods. There he hopes to come to terms with a more private battle, and a family tragedy that haunts him more than the giants that lie rotting on the horizon of his torn and ravaged country.

When he finds a young family in the cabin next door, their presence threatens his reunion with the ghosts of his past, just as it threatens to make him care again about humanity. At the same time, unbeknownst to Connor, there is a mysterious soldier tracking his passage across the country, seeking him for sinister reasons all his own. And another couple, a man and woman, are making their way to the cabin as well... he for a meeting with fate, she for escape and renewal.
