Axiomatic Design, originally developed by Nam Suh,is a design methodology that attempts to systematizethe design practices and to provide a basis on whichdesign can be carried out and optimized according totwo main axioms, namely, Independence andInformation axioms. Although various scholars inboth academia and industry have studied theapplicability and effectiveness of this methodology,the extent to which Axiomatic Design has beenimplemented in industry, particularly in the U.S.,is unknown.This study was conducted to identify the extent towhich Axiomatic Design is known to the U.S.industries. Other purposes of this study includedidentifying the factors influencing the use of themethodology, learning users opinions on theeffectiveness of Axiomatic Design, and determiningthe methods and strategies used in introducingAxiomatic Design.
