The Word of God and the Word of Man

"The Word of God and the Word of Man" is a seminal collection of addresses and essays by Karl Barth, one of the most influential theologians of the twentieth century. This work represents a pivotal moment in modern Christian thought, marking the emergence of dialectical theology and the movement often referred to as neo-orthodoxy. In these pages, Barth explores the profound tension between human religious experience and the transcendent reality of divine revelation. He challenges the prevailing liberal theology of his era, arguing that God is "Wholly Other" and cannot be reached through human effort or culture alone.

The collection includes influential texts such as "The Need of Christian Preaching" and "The Word of God as the Task of Ministry." Through these writings, Barth seeks to recover the radical message of the Bible and the Reformation, emphasizing the sovereignty of God and the transformative power of the Gospel. "The Word of God and the Word of Man" serves as an essential introduction to Barth's thought, offering profound insights into the nature of faith, the purpose of the church, and the responsibility of the believer in the modern world. It remains a cornerstone for students of theology, philosophy, and religious history seeking to understand the foundations of contemporary theological discourse.
