I was going to call the book 'THE SERGEANT MAJOR'S BOOK OF INSULTS' but that's a bit of a mouth full. But the bullshit, slang, quotes, rants, phases, stories, or whatever you want to call them can come from anyone, RSMs, CSMs, QMs, DSs, CQMS and Provo Sergeants... I could go on, even the little Hitler Corporals...and we all knew a few of them.
And those rants would come from anywhere, on the parade square, in the barrack room, in the field, cookhouse and Guardroom, usually when you least expected it, even in your tortured and nightmarish dreams.
In the end I decided to name the book THE SHOUTY MAN. Shouting and screaming have always been a part of Military training, it's used to emphasize a point. It has worked for hundreds of years, and it still works. No one is physically harmed anymore, and it is funny afterwards to all concerned. When I joined up (British Army) it was break him in, dismantle him, and reassemble him into a man with integrity, dignity, and respect... learning to think calmly under pressure requires PRESSURE.
