The Secret Place and The Open Door

The Secret Place and the Open Door holds two truths at once: solitude can be a school of the Spirit, and secrecy can be a tool of control. Drawing on pastoral care, survivor testimony, and trauma‑informed practice, Netreia guides readers through the interior work of formation and the public work of protection. This book offers clear, compassionate instruction for those who have been hidden by abuse, trafficking, or betrayal, and for the communities called to keep them safe. You will find discreet, reversible safety practices for people living under coercive control; spiritual disciplines that restore agency rather than justify silence; and practical frameworks for churches and institutions to prevent harm, respond faithfully, and repair trust. Readable, theologically grounded, and urgently pastoral, The Secret Place and the Open Door equips survivors, pastors, and leaders to recognize spiritualized manipulation, stabilize families, and build communities where dignity is restored and secrecy no longer hides violence. Here is a book of hope that names danger honestly and shows the small, steady practices that open the door to healing.
