What if the theology of Jesus was not the same as the theology later constructed about Jesus?

Jesus of Nazareth preached the Kingdom of God, radical compassion, forgiveness, humility, care for the marginalized, and transformation in the present moment. Yet within generations, Christianity's center of gravity shifted from the message Jesus taught toward doctrines concerning Jesus's identity, sacrificial death, resurrection, and role in salvation.

In The Secret Gospel: The Real Theology of Jesus Christ, HRH Prince Gharios El Chemor of Ghassan Al-Nu'man VIII undertakes an ambitious reconstruction of the historical Jesus and his original theological vision.

Drawing upon historical-Jesus research, biblical criticism, Christian origins, the Synoptic Gospels, and the Gospel of Thomas, the author introduces the Essentian Method, a cumulative system that examines religious claims through historical plausibility, scientific consistency, logical coherence, ethical integrity, universal applicability, experiential resonance, and necessity.

At the center of the book is the original Principle of Independent Essentian Convergence, which asks where separately filtered traditions converge upon the same enduring structure. Rather than treating every biblical passage as equally historical-or accepting the Gospel of Thomas uncritically-the method weighs each source, separates authenticity from meaning and moral significance, and distinguishes strong historical conclusions from plausible interpretations and constructive metaphysics.

The resulting portrait presents Jesus as a first-century Jewish prophet and sage whose central message concerned:

  • the Kingdom of God as a present and transformative reality;
  • radical compassion extending even to enemies;
  • forgiveness without spiritual accounting;
  • humility and relentless self-examination;
  • concern for the poor, excluded, and socially condemned;
  • freedom of conscience and the sacred right to choose;
  • transcendence of religious and tribal boundaries;
  • salvation understood as realignment rather than transaction.

The book also investigates how Jesus became God within developing Christian theology, how Paul shifted Christianity's emphasis toward the saving meaning of Christ's death and resurrection, why traditional models of heaven and hell create profound logical and ethical problems, and how the recovered teaching may be interpreted through God as coherence, Neo-Henotheism, Triple Accord, Satya-Karma, and the Ontoelectric vision.

These later frameworks are presented openly as constructive interpretations rather than doctrines historically attributed to Jesus, preserving a clear boundary between historical reconstruction and philosophical development.

The Secret Gospel is written for readers interested in the historical Jesus, the Gospel of Thomas, early Christianity, biblical scholarship, Christian deconstruction and reconstruction, progressive Christianity, comparative religion, mystical spirituality, philosophy of religion, and the search for a form of faith capable of surviving serious doubt.

This is not the story of a forbidden book concealed by the Church. It is the recovery of a theological pattern hidden in plain sight across the surviving traditions: a gospel centered less upon believing the correct things about Jesus than upon living the transformation Jesus taught.
