What if a secret door could take you back in time?
On a rainy afternoon, siblings Brady, Trevin, Keegan, and Jayla discover a mysterious little door hidden in their attic. A brass plaque on the front reads one intriguing date-1776.
When the children open the door, WHOOSH! They are swept through time and land right in the middle of the American Revolution!
Suddenly, history is no longer something they read about in books. The siblings see British redcoats marching, meet American Patriots, visit a Continental Army camp, and learn why the thirteen colonies were fighting for independence from Great Britain. When an important message needs to reach the Patriots, the four children discover that they can play a part in history too.
Along the way, young readers are introduced to important American Revolution concepts, including the Patriots, Continental Army, George Washington, Declaration of Independence, thirteen colonies, independence, and the years 1775-1783. The story also shows children that soldiers weren't the only people who contributed during the Revolution-messengers, farmers, craftspeople, families, and many others played important roles.
But Brady, Trevin, Keegan, and Jayla have one more problem to solve...
How will they find the secret door and get back home?
Filled with mystery, adventure, colorful illustrations, and child-friendly history, The Secret Door to 1776 makes learning about the American Revolution exciting and easy to understand. It is a fun introduction to American history for young readers and a wonderful choice for families, classrooms, libraries, and homeschool lessons.
And when the children finally return home, the secret door reveals another date...
1863.
