The Great War changed Felipe's perspective on many things, morality most of all.
After returning to his home in Puerto Rico, his father tasks him with shifting the family's business away from making rum to comply with a new law about to take effect, Prohibition. Instead, Felipe sees an opportunity to dominate the illegal alcohol market. He soon finds himself maneuvering the corruption around him as easily as a ballroom dance.
But his success comes at a cost. Vicious gangs soon want what he has, and two of his men are brutally murdered.
As the violence escalates, Felipe will need to decide how far he'll go to protect his people and family, before all his secrets are exposed.
Part crime drama and part history lesson, The Rum Dance explores a time and place often overlooked. In 1918, the people of Ponce and the southern region of Puerto Rico see themselves and their economy becoming increasingly irrelevant under the authority of American interests. It's a story where the effects of early twentieth century colonialism come to life at a personal level with characters that highlight the conflicting identities and views of the time, many still relevant to Puerto Rico and its people today.
