Alternately titled, Philosophers Who Get Out of Their Heads for Love's Sake, this book offers an account of the heart faculty as a unitary organ and seat of cognition. As such, it is a move from the mind to the heart-mind, or heart-intellect. It discusses various philosophical schools, exploring experiential and practical accounts of heart-centered meditative practices and philosophical discourse-to emphasize their significance in the history of philosophy. The treatise traces historical perspectives on the heart's role in cognition before examining the practices of philosopher-mystics across different ages. By drawing on modern scholarship, it also establishes connections between ordinary experiential accounts of heart meditation and the advanced states of awareness achieved by sages with similar ethical concerns. Ultimately, however, this thesis's aim is to advocate for a renewed consideration of heart-centered approaches within both philosophical inquiry and daily life, while exploring possibilities that are far greater than those imagined in common analytic discourse.
