The Forme of Cury is a medieval English cookbook compiled by the master cooks of King Richard II in the late 14th century. Written in Middle English on vellum scrolls, it serves as one of the earliest and most comprehensive collections of recipes in England. The text contains approximately 200 recipes, offering insights into the culinary practices of the medieval court, blending influences from European and Arabic traditions. Dishes include rich stews, elaborate pies, spiced meats, and intricate sauces, often using exotic ingredients such as saffron and almonds to showcase wealth and sophistication. Beyond its culinary content, the work is a valuable historical document, reflecting the social and cultural dynamics of the period, including the interplay between food, class, and medieval trade networks.
