The occult promises the opposite: power over what depends on no one, in exchange for the one thing that truly is in our hands, our own judgment. This book takes its texts (grimoires, black bibles, hermetic manuals, tarot, astrology, "manifesting") and examines them without haste, on both faces: the dates, the sources, the contradictions. It accuses from no faith and asks no one to take its word; every charge is proven with the pages of the genre itself.
At the bottom of that task waits what the occult mimics and does not possess: reason exercised without fear, the inheritance of Epictetus, of Seneca, of Marcus Aurelius. It offers no mysteries, but something more arduous and more worthy: lucidity.
