This book is based on the definition of citizenship by the liberal sociologist T. H. Marshall. It assumes that there are antagonistic social classes and that the struggle for democratic rights occurs naturally, within the framework of evolutionary historical development. Among the authors we use as references, the following stand out: Marshall himself, John Locke, Norberto Bobbio, Décio Saes, Newton Duarte, Ivo Tonet, Nilda Teves Ferreira, and Marcos Francisco Martins, to name the most significant in this work. The literature review worked with the concept of citizenship from the perspective of etymology, historical and dialectical materialism, the liberal meaning of the concept, as well as critiques of the liberal concept.
