The Book of Psalms

Book III of the Psalms confronts a season of profound crisis, confusion, and collective grief. The songs in Psalms 73-89 wrestle openly with unanswered questions-why the wicked prosper, why the righteous suffer, and why God at times seems silent in the face of national collapse. These psalms do not soften the tension of faith under pressure; instead, they bring it fully into the presence of God.
Over the past months, I have prayerfully studied Psalms 73-89, seeking to understand how faith responds when familiar assurances begin to fracture. These prayers emerge from moments of theological disorientation, social upheaval, and apparent covenant failure. The psalmists speak honestly about envy, doubt, anger, and despair-yet they continue to direct their questions toward God, refusing to abandon Him even when His ways feel hidden.
This study is written especially for young adults (roughly ages 18-30) navigating a world marked by instability, injustice, institutional failure, and moral confusion. These psalms give voice to the disillusionment that arises when expectations collapse-when leaders fail, systems break, and faith feels harder to hold. Rather than offering quick resolutions, Book III teaches us how to remain faithful in the unresolved middle, where belief and confusion coexist.
Book III centers on national lament, communal suffering, and the painful tension between God's promises and lived reality. Many of these psalms come from Asaph and reflect moments when Israel's identity, security, and future appear threatened. The focus shifts from personal pain and hopeful deliverance to the aching question of whether God's covenant still stands-and what it means to trust Him when restoration has not yet come.
