Inkeri Rautio came to a remote village in the Romanian foothills to rest a knee that had ended her career. She had a medal in a sock at the bottom of her bag, a doctor's instructions she had no intention of following, and a plan to be left alone.
On the evening of the sixth of June, she went for a one-hour run in the old forest above the village.
By nightfall she is lost in it, and the forest is not the kind that lets people find their way. It has been keeping a date for a very long time. She has until dawn to get out, and the only person who seems to know how the place works is a girl who has been inside it far longer than anyone should survive.
Nobody in the village will tell Inkeri what the sixth night is. By morning she will understand why.
