Nothing can come between a boy and his dog; sometimes, not even death.
Since the day he brought Sunny back from the beyond, Joel's noticed a few troubling changes in the ghost of his old dog: her once beautiful coat has fallen out, her witless smile bears now elongated needles for teeth, and her eyes-twin swirling vortexes, threatening to draw him in the longer he looks . . . But it has to be Sunny, right? Otherwise who-or what-could it be?
It's not until a young male witch (NOT a warlock) comes to him claiming they share a connection, that Joel begins to suspect he may be a pawn within a grander, more eternal, scheme. To find the truth, he must first reconcile not only with the mysterious Fontaine's likely selfish goals, but also the looming memory of his overbearing mother, the cult she founded consisting of people partially blinded in an eclipse, and his own unfortunate proclivity to creep out any woman who finds herself within staring distance of him. Poor Joel just wants love-and if he can't learn to love himself, could he find it with whatever the hell his cute little dog has become? Does anyone smell sulfur?
SUNNY is a madcap, terrifying ride along with a kaleidoscopic cast of freaks and weirdos: men's rights activists, witches, podcast hosts and influencers, ghost hunters and aging dudes in middle management; looking to find out just what went wrong to make such a nice young man behave in such a way, or to go do such a thing? Answers, of sorts, lie within.
