Integration is a two-way street. As an immigrant, one cannot integrate if there is nothing to integrate into. The process requires a lot of awareness, both from people migrating in, about what they bring along, and how they influence the local population; and from the local population on how they receive different categories of foreigners and how that is influencing the development of the community.
"Still Breaking Ice, for twenty years, in Northern Norway" is Gabriela Sirbu's second book, in which she delves deeper into northern Norwegian culture, drawing on her work with both immigrants in Norway and locals. It also raises awareness of how Norwegian she became over two decades.
The first book is "Speak the Unspoken: Exploring the unwritten rules of North Norway," in which she shares the unwritten cultural codes of North Norway.
Gabriela's education, training, observation skills, and experience with people are helping her articulate social and psychological phenomena that can be easily overlooked at first glance, yet play key roles in adapting to the new globalized world we live in.
Gabriela Sirbu is a former journalist and has a master's degree in Peace and Conflict Transformation from UiT and a specialization in practical psychology from the Norwegian Gestalt Institute in Oslo.
