Statement and Engineering Report by the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario Submitted to the International Joint Commission Respecting the Prop

"Statement and Engineering Report by the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario" presents a comprehensive technical and strategic investigation into the proposed development of the St. Lawrence River for power generation and navigation. Originally submitted to the International Joint Commission in 1921, this detailed report outlines the ambitious engineering vision required to harness one of North America's most vital waterways for industrial and domestic energy needs.

The work provides an in-depth analysis of water flow, potential dam sites, and the structural requirements for a large-scale hydro-electric infrastructure. It addresses the complex technical challenges of the era, offering data-driven insights into how the river's natural resources could be managed to support the burgeoning economic growth of Ontario and the surrounding regions. The text also touches upon the international cooperation necessary for such a project, reflecting the diplomatic and environmental considerations inherent in managing cross-border water resources.

As a significant historical document in the field of civil engineering and public policy, this report captures a pivotal moment in the transition toward large-scale renewable energy. It serves as an essential resource for those interested in the history of Canadian infrastructure, the evolution of hydro-electric technology, and the developmental history of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence system.
