Am Musikverständnis können daher wichtige Einblicke in das Ineinander von Welt- und Gottesverständnis gewonnen werden, was zugleich eine fundierte religionsphilosophische Klärung der Beziehung von Musik und Religion ermöglicht. Auf der Basis einer orientierungshermeneutischen Methode untersucht Stefan Berg in drei Studien von der Musik her das Ins-Spiel-Kommen der Religion. Im seinsphilosophischen Horizont von Augustins De musica verschmelzen Musik und Religion in der Einheit der Welt. Im subjektphilosophischen Denken J.-J. Rousseaus treten sie einander als streng separierte Größen gegenüber. Für ein Denken jenseits von Seins- und Subjektphilosophie präsentiert sich die musikalische Situation als Spielwerk. Wie anhand der Ekklesiastischen Aktion von B.A. Zimmermann gezeigt werden kann, gehen Musik und Religion hier eine konkrete, temporal und lokal begrenzte und daher stets flüchtige Beziehung miteinander ein.
