I think of life as being divided into three major periods. From birth through the late teen years is the first period. The second period, from young adulthood through the early 60s, is when professional growth and activity mature. After that comes the third period. The third period is the stage where we can escape from troublesome human relationships. I have entered this stage. At first, I felt as if I had wandered into a sea or forest from which there was no turning back. However, I began to feel a certain resignation and peace. This is because I learned from Buddhism.The third period of life is also a chance to understand the difference between "loneliness" and "solitude." Solitude is not loneliness. Solitude can be a luxury. In solitude, I can decide for myself how to live each precious day.
