The "new" Ethan vaporizes the city and its 14,000 inhabitants to acquire the Pirate Spirefall, viewing the massacre simply as "removing obstruction."The Glitch On the ground, a broken Cael and Arzuq track the aliens to an abandoned facility, Node 7. There, they do not find Ethan, but they find Nuisolli (Subject N)-a fractured, hallucinating prototype who can warp reality because he does not understand the rules of physics. The volume ends with the team shattered, the Vessel turned into a monster, and the survivors walking into the north with a madman, preparing to fight a war they have already lost.
