DETECT.IT - the detective of the future, but at what cost?

It's been five years since the Bureau Of Information rolled out it's AI sleuth, DETECT.IT. Despite promises that it would handle all case work with ease, churn out results in record breaking time, and save a pretty penny to boot, what transpired was was the polor opposite.
Now, after a series of reduncies and mass walkouts, the Bureau finds itself with a skeleton crew, an ever growing backlog of cases, and a management that refuses to see the failure of its decisions.

Staying on for reasons lost to them, veteran detectives, Jane & John Doe, make up a large portion of those left. Ferried from case to case the pair no longer serve as detectives, but as an acceptable face. Meeting with victims, they gather data, hand out funeral coupons, make empty promises, pass all information on to their silicone successor, and hollow themselves out with each day they dredge themselves through.

So, when they are sent to Jane's childhood haunt, the coastal town of Blighton, to cover the death of a young man, it is expected to be buisness as usual (with the chance of a tan): Get in, meet with victims, make promises about DETECT.IT, grab an icecream, and move on. But when the death looks like a murder and Bureau management pushes for a cover up, the detectives find themselves at a crossroads. Stick to the status quo and carry on as normal, or break through the meloncholly that has become them and rediscover their why.
