Returning to East Tennessee with $820,000 in Los Angeles cash, Markus purchases rural land, flips a ranch for profit, and constructs his immortal sanctuary-Mount Al'monte. Hidden high in the mountains, the gothic glass-and-stone fortress is protected by a mirror-lined moat and a vault built to guard Hell's greatest weapon: the Devil's Bible, also known as the Sacred Writ.

After a seven-year prophetic silence, the Book responds to him in August 1997. When Markus chants his name-"Saint Markus"-the Sacred Writ glows to confirm what destiny chose long ago: he is the Denali of demons, the predestined instrument of karma, judgment, and wrath.
