Whenever we disciple a person, when we walk the person through what it means to be godly, to be righteous, and having God's Word govern their lives, usually a great deal of stuff needs to be unlearned in order to learn righteousness in living.

When the truth from God's Word (the Holy Bible) becomes known to us, we realize that many active churchgoers are governed by handed down religious customs, teachings, doctrine, and/or institutional-church traditions.
A hard fact for some to digest is that many churchgoers are governed more by the habits of the mind - what is familiar - than by God's Word? These habits, more often than not, have been established by church history and reaffirmed by the church leadership as they focused upon or followed teachings that were familiar to them.

The word Bible, as with the expressions Old and New Testament, is commonly used by people from all ethne, nations. The appropriate term to use for the Hebrew Scriptures is Tanakh (the Old Testament).
This word Tanakh is derived from the Hebrew letters of its three components: Torah, Nevi'im, and Ketuvim. In Luke 24:44, the Messiah identifies these same three components: "law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms" (KJV).

Hebrews 6:1-2 (CJB), "Therefore, leaving behind the initial lessons about the Messiah, let us go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of turning from works that lead to death, trusting God, and instruction about washings, s'mikhah, the resurrection of the dead and eternal punishment."
The Hebrew word s'mikhah has deeper cultural and biblical meaning than the expression, "laying on of hands," which we will get into later.
