Rough Silk

The author, Deborah Tendo, tells the story of her own relationship with her father in this book. It is a tell-all story in which Deborah tells things as they are-from her dad's alcoholism and how it affected his personal life and relationships to his struggle with cancer, and how her mother disowned the author as her daughter. The book is a rich historical archive of issues and

events that continue to define modern Kenya in the post-independence era, including HIV/Aids, ethnic rivalry, and corruption. These are written in an interesting, captivating fashion as Deborah narrates the story of her family, culminating in revealing the power of social media as she rallied her followers in her darkest moments.

Deborah Auko Tendo is a logistician, public/private security consultant and dangerous goods specialist. She holds ten years' experience as an election observer in Africa. A cancer advocate, she is multilingual and can speak six languages. She is the Patron of SheLogistics, an association for Kenyan women in logistics and transport, and is the CEO of the Kenya Fibroids Foundation. An award winning social justice enterpreneur, Deborah's work for Rough Silk has earned her accolades-including the Ashoka Global Change Makers award, a writer for UN Youth, and featuring in the American Embassy's "60 stories of Impact". Deborah was voted among the 50 Most influential Kenyan Women in 2024/25. Her other passions include travelling. She has been to all except two countries in Africa and a total of 86 countries worldwide. An adventurist, she has summited both Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya in the same year.
