During the first Persian empire, under the reign of King Ahasuerus, a Jew named Mordecai stood- literally stood. This simple act birthed a fierce plan of genocide. Although life had presented many challenges to him, living in exile as a minority and experiencing the occasional despisal, he now faced certain death. What hope did he have for himself and his people?
Reversals provides a unique interpretation of this classic story in the retelling of the Book of Esther. Beginning with the great feast celebrated by King Ahasuerus and his guests gathered from 127 provinces, the eventual selection of Mordecai's cousin, Esther, as queen, to the rise of their arch enemy, one cannot deny the perfect "coincidences" throughout that culminate in an unexpected turnaround.
While we have seen significant technological advances centuries later, the elitist mindset has greatly advanced society's downward spiral. As daunting as it is, the unseen hand in the Book of Esther can still turn the tables, offering hope to those who have suffered at the hands of oppressors. There is One who is watching and in due time will bring about His righteous justice.
This retelling has two narratives, the first with brief commentaries and the second with more in-depth discussion and perceptions. Along with depictions of the five main characters, the author includes some lessons from the Book of Esther.
