Restless Seeker

Restless Seeker: A Path from Wounding into Wonder

For restless seekers who often struggle to find words for the soul's journey.

This book was born from a simple question:

"How can I place my inner journey, with its lights and shadows, at the service of other restless seekers?"

In these pages, Maria José Rebelo shares her own journey through loneliness, fear of abandonment, longing, woundedness, belonging, healing, gratitude, and wonder. With honesty and vulnerability, she reflects on experiences that many people carry in silence: the desire to be loved, the fear of not belonging, the search for meaning, and the longing for something deeper that often remains difficult to name.

Restless Seeker unfolds as a journey in three movements. The first explores the wounds that shaped the author's life and the restlessness that emerged from them. The second follows the path of transformation through intentional silence, self-awareness, the contemplative practice of Centering Prayer, and soul companionship. The third reflects on the fruits slowly born from that journey: presence, compassion, vulnerability, gratitude, yearning, and wonder.

Part memoir and part companion, this is not a book written by someone who has everything figured out. It is the story of one fellow traveller sharing what she has learned while walking through darkness and light, brokenness and healing, loss and belonging.

Throughout the book, readers are invited to pause, reflect, journal, and listen more deeply to their own inner lives. Rather than offering quick answers, these pages create space for questions, for silence, and for the gentle unfolding of the soul's journey.

Rooted in the Christian contemplative tradition yet accessible to seekers from many backgrounds, Restless Seeker draws inspiration from voices such as Thomas Merton, Thomas Keating, Richard Rohr, Cynthia Bourgeault, James Finley, Henri Nouwen, Thich Nhat Hanh, and many others.

At its heart is the practice of Centering Prayer and the conviction that intentional silence can help awaken a deeper relationship with the Divine Presence dwelling within.

Written with warmth, tenderness, and authenticity, Restless Seeker is an invitation to discover that our wounds do not have to define us, that longing can become a trusted guide, that healing often unfolds slowly, and that wonder may be found in places we least expect.

Above all, this book is a promise of companionship from one restless seeker to another.

It is for every restless seeker longing to find home within.
