Report of Messrs. Peck and Price

Report of Messrs. Peck and Price documents the journey of Thomas Price and Nathaniel Peck, delegates appointed by the Free Colored People of Baltimore in 1839. Their mission: to explore the potential benefits of emigration to British Guiana and Trinidad. This report offers invaluable insight into the perspectives and concerns of free African Americans in the pre-Civil War era, as they considered options for a better life outside the United States.

The report provides firsthand observations of these Caribbean societies, detailing economic opportunities, social conditions, and the overall suitability of these locations as havens for those seeking refuge from racial discrimination. This historical document is essential for understanding the complex factors influencing African American migration patterns and the broader history of the African diaspora.
