At the heart of this precarious future is Ian Phillips, a brilliant technologist who developed his own AI companion before the sweeping restrictions on autonomous AI were enacted globally in 2040. He managed to secure a special waiver, allowing him to continue utilizing his AI not as an independent entity, but as an advanced augmentation for his own intellect and a robust security network. Sometime later, this AI, christened Quantum Entanglement Augmented Intelligence, or QEAI, proved instrumental in the creation of a groundbreaking device dubbed the "Tangler," a marvel of quantum entanglement technology.
Ian's frustration mounts as governmental bureaucracy stalls the advancement of his organic Tangler invention. In a bold move to circumvent these roadblocks and compel regulators to act, he launches a global contest.
