A forgotten map.
A hidden fortune.
A story buried for nearly a century.
The impact of gold mining in Colorado in the mid-1800s had a devastating impact on Colorado's Native people, the Ute Indians.
Their ancestral territory covered much of what became the state of Colorado and extended into eastern Utah. As prospectors, miners, and settlers moved into the area, Ute lands were steadily taken and reduced.
Many Native people were enslaved and forced to work in mines developed on their own sacred lands. They were eventually placed on reservations established by the government. The Utes were never adequately compensated for the wealth extracted from their lands.
Nearly a hundred years later, a mysterious map is discovered by a relative of two Ute men who escaped from a mine after being enslaved there for more than three years. The map provides a clue to a large stash of gold the men took from the mine and hid after their escape.
The discovery sets their descendants on a search for the hidden gold. Following clues from the past, they set out to retrace the story of the two men and find the fortune that has remained hidden for nearly a century.
