In 1936, the Great War may seem an event long passed; particularly in the small rural town of Falls Parish, Ontario.
Would that be so for Felix Strachan, who spent his late teenage years on the Western Front. Sometimes, he can't seem to escape the memory of the horrors he witnessed all those years ago. His young family, his work and even the present crisis of the Great Depression all pale against events of "The War to End All Wars."
With the dedication of Canada's National Monument happening that summer in France, Felix has come to believe that attending the ceremonies might offer some measure of healing; of putting the past where it truly belongs, even if that means he must visit in body the old battlefields he continues still to visit in mind.
