Beginning in 1965, On the Leash tells the story of a girl and the four dogs she calls, 'the loves of her life'. As they accompany her through the ups and downs of childhood to adulthood, each of their stories is funny and poignant. Meet Whiskey, Samantha, Bogart and Abbey Road. Whiskey is a border collie mix who chases cars, and Bogart gets so excited at the prospect of visiting 'grandma' he jumps out the window of her car, while it's moving! Samantha is such a brat she gets mud all over a woman's white coat. And Abbey is a handful as she lives with her epilepsy with the help of medication. All this and yet the four of them manage to keep her entertained throughout her life. The lessons learned stay with her, and the reader, forever.
