It's 1998, Halloween is days away, and it's a momentous time for Portland's magenta bookmobile. The Internet is a growing force in the world. With libraries and bookstores alike bleeding patrons to nascent online booksellers, intrepid librarian-on-wheels Hester McGarrigle hatches a plan to rescue her beloved book bus. Joining forces with Portland's local mega-bookstore, Hester brings best-selling authors from across America to book signings aboard the bookmobile. All goes famously until a superstar futurist who draws throngs meets a haunting fate nobody predicted.
