Mother Mary of the Passion

"Mother Mary of the Passion: Foundress of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary" offers a compelling and insightful biography of Hélène de Chappotin, the visionary woman who established one of the most prolific missionary orders in the history of the Catholic Church. Written by Dominic Devas, this work meticulously charts her spiritual evolution and the arduous journey that led to the foundation of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM).

The narrative delves into the complexities of her life, from her early religious callings to the eventual establishment of an institute uniquely dedicated to the universal mission and the contemplative adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Devas provides a vivid portrait of a leader who combined profound mystical devotion with extraordinary administrative skill, navigating the ecclesiastical challenges of the 19th century to expand her order across multiple continents.

By examining her dedication to the Franciscan ideals of poverty and service, the book highlights her significant impact on the role of women in the mission field. This historical account is an invaluable resource for readers interested in hagiography, the history of religious life, and the expansion of global Catholic missions. It stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of a woman whose faith and courage continue to inspire charitable work and spiritual life today.
