Molecular Egregore is a 24-volume work organized across five movements that proposes a single radical reframe: psychoactive substances are not passive chemical agents but presences - each carrying a distinct intelligence, a characteristic signature, and a consistent way of revealing the world to the minds that encounter them.

The book draws on three parallel traditions simultaneously - neuroscience, Hermetic philosophy, and the oldest pharmacological traditions across cultures - and uses them to construct what Harper calls the molecular genius doctrine: the idea that each substance has a genius in the classical sense, an indwelling spirit or animating intelligence that expresses itself predictably across wildly different users, contexts, and centuries.

Each volume is devoted to a single substance or class, given its full treatment: planetary signature, alchemical operation, neurological mechanism, historical role, specific gift, and specific danger. Cannabis is framed as the retrograde messenger - occupying the site of the brain's own self-modulation rather than the desire system. Ayahuasca closes the book as the combination intelligence, the one pharmacological discovery made entirely without pharmacology, by people who simply listened.

Running underneath the whole thing is an argument about sobriety - not as identity, moral position, or social contract, but as a tool. A mode of clarity that makes the intelligence of the substances legible in retrospect. The book's final position, stated directly in the Afterword: the intelligence shows the room.
