The Sicilian dialect
The dialectal forms are important cognitive tools. The great intuitions, constructions, of make with poor instruments. A cultural wealth that should never be underestimated.
After the unification of Italy (1860) many terms of the Italian language were dropped into the Sicilian lexicon and dialect almost entirely, varying only the desinences.

The Sicilianization of different Italian terms is the natural consequence of the need to express missing concepts in one's own dialect.
The dialect is still widely spoken among adults, while the habit of speaking in dialect has ceased among younger people.
We hope that this trend will be reversed over time.
Some localities have had a more conservative mentality, others have adopted slang and English words totally far from the Sicilian dialect.
It would be very interesting to teach the dialect of one's own region in schools, even if only two hours a week. It would certainly lead to the natural pride of one's soul and identity.

In this volume the Sicilian dialect terms are excluded, which are very similar to those of Italian, just to give space to the most peculiar, the most interesting and colorful.
