Mary's Yard

Mary's Yard is a series of children's books that are excellent night-time story reads for children ages 1 - 3 and are attention-grabbing early readers for those starting to read on their own. They are written in and introduce children to poetic structure that makes for easy and pleasant-sounding reading.

The theme of the book, Mary's Yard, describes her backyard which is her playground. It is where she learns about things that she finds there from insects to animals, weather and seasons, how she comes to share the world with them, how they live, and who and what they are. Mary spends most of her time playing outdoors, exploring the seemingly endless wilderness that is her backyard, but to her, it is the world. Every day she seeks a new adventure and she can't wait to get out of bed in the morning to see what awaits her that day. Exploration and learning is the theme and the Mary's Yard series will plant seeds of interest in younger children to go and explore for themselves.

In this first book in the Mary's Yard series, Mary plays in her backyard and has playful interactions with a grasshopper and a butterfly. One of her pursuits, the grasshopper finally eludes her, but her interest is redirected to a passing butterfly for a new learning experience.
