Autumn, 1947. A detective drives up into the mountains to a coal town called Marrow, to reopen the coldest case in the county: a school bus that vanished twenty-two years ago on a quarter-mile of open road-sixteen children and their driver, gone, with no wreck, no bodies, and no explanation anyone has ever been able to give.
