Mark Whalen, also known as Kill Pixie, is a Los Angeles artist with devoted fans all over the world. His followers gravitate toward his unique color palette and surreal geometric precision, and have succeeded in selling out his gallery exhibitions from London to Australia. Whalens imagery resonates with a strange beauty all its own, with unexpected and often disturbing tableaus floating across gridded fields in the alternate universe he has created. Whalens skill as a painter contributes to the strength of the socially satirical worlds he creates and then upends - worlds composed of strange hooded figures engaged in dubious acts, shimmering trees, and textural beads of color. Whalen uses sly oppositions to reflect lifes puzzling duality; evoking dark humor through luminous color, chaos through controlled detail, the sublime through the specific. The full range of existence emerges through these controlled spaces; Whalen describes the action in his paintings as "sexuality, invention, playing, fighting, experimenting, cultivating, dreaming, destroying, and ideologies confronting each other."
