This isn't a book about losing sight. It's a book about learning to see.

When Jennifer Smith began losing her sight, she thought she was losing her independence, her confidence and the life she had planned. What she didn't expect was that it would also strip away illusion, distraction, and the pressure to live the life everyone else expected of her.

This book is not a story of disability. It is a story about perception, identity, resilience, and what happens when life forces you to rebuild from the inside out.

Through personal stories, reflections and powerful insights, Jennifer explores:

  • What we do when life doesn't go to plan
  • How to rebuild confidence after loss
  • The masks we wear to survive
  • Why slowing down might be the bravest thing we can do
  • How losing one thing can sometimes give us everything else

This book is for anyone who has ever felt lost, different, exhausted or unsure of who they are becoming.

You may not lose your sight.
But at some point in your life you will lose something.
And this book is about what happens next.

About the Author

Jennifer G. Smith is a writer, inclusion strategist, and facilitator whose
work sits at the intersection of lived experience, systems thinking, and
human behaviour.

Her writing is informed by sight loss and
neurodivergence, alongside professional experience spanning inclusion,
employment law, mediation, and the criminal justice system
which gives her a rare, grounded perspective on how policy, power, and
perception shape everyday life.

Jennifer's work moves beyond awareness narratives to examine how
people navigate systems that are often designed for compliance rather
than care. She is particularly interested in attention, regulation, and the
unseen costs of urgency culture both personally and institutionally.
Drawing on neuroscience, metaphor, and real-world practice, she
develops reflective frameworks that help readers pause, reorient, and
engage more honestly with themselves and their environments.

Her debut book, Lost My Sight: Found My Freedom, anchors a wider
body of work exploring presence, clarity, and what becomes possible
when vision is understood as more than sight. Across her writing and
facilitation, Jennifer bridges personal insight with structural
understanding, offering language and tools that resonate with both
individual readers and organisational audiences.

Jennifer is based in the UK and writes for readers and institutions
seeking thoughtful, practical approaches to inclusion, attention, and
sustainable change.
