"Lap 18" is a memoir detailing the author's relentless struggle to survive abuse and homelessness after aging out of the children's services system. The narrative begins with the author being abandoned in Ohio by family and meeting Kelly, a charismatic man who is later revealed to be a fugitive wanted for multiple attempted murders.
The author follows Kelly and her family to Arizona, living in constant flight from the law.
