La célèbre expédition d’Égypte du général Bonaparte est particulièrement bien connue, tant sur le plan de l’aventure militaire que des travaux des savants de la Commission des sciences et des arts d’Égypte. L’échec du point de vue militaire est largement compensé par les résultats scientifiques qui sont dans leur majorité transcrits dans le monumental ouvrage de la Description de l’Égypte.
