Jossabee

In 1804 the Barbary War was alive and well in the Mediterranean Sea. Napoleon had just crowned himself Emperor of France, and over a million and a half Europeans were involved in the slave trade. To build his army, Napoleon freed scores of Algerian pirates in exchange for French slaves.

Pirate captain, Jossabee Sarrazin, has just been reunited with her frigate, the Black Iris, after three years in an Italian prison. Eager to get her life back in order she is startled to see her home in Algeria is not the same as when she last left it. The Ottomans have pushed their influence west in her absence.

Heir to the pasha in Tripoli, Hassan Karamanli, has been attempting to broker deals with the Ottomans circulating the Mediterranean Sea. Everything was going according to plan until Jossabee arrives in Tripoli to stir things up with old friends and lovers, not all of whom are particularly happy to see her.

Pirate loyalties are hard bought and their hearts harder yet to win, but Hassan is anxious to make his own mark in his corner of the world, with Jossabee at his side. Convincing her of this arrangement will take some work, especially since Jossabee was not the only pirate freed from the prisons in Italy.

Old wounds have reopened when 1805 arrives. Fighting has come to Derna, and with it, the promise of new power. Hassan wants to see himself victorious when the storm clears, but it won't be worth anything unless Jossabee survives too. Will Tripoli have a new leader, or will the pirate captain go down with their ship?
