It is only a cycle. That's the only thing that matters. It doesn't matter the cogs that push the flow - they change, rust, get replaced or eventually, the whole system becomes better. Or worse.
Lavrik is part of a new species. everybody is willing to give everything for survival or sacrifice their souls for 'pure' comfort.
