At the age of 21, Baseball America ranked Carlton Byron Hamilton the #1 minor league prospect in the Chicago Cubs organization and the #3 left-handed pitching prospect in all of minor league baseball. He was on his way to fame, and life changing generational wealth. Two arm surgeries in a single season and three more years of trying to come back later, no team signed him, and he was out of baseball. His life began to spiral out of control into depression and homelessness. Eventually hitting rock bottom when he was arrested for armed robbery. Facing a nineteen to sixty-seven-year sentence, something profound happened. The judge gave him five years, reduced to four with time served, and a second chance.
Once in prison, he enrolled in college courses, read everything he could and attended self-development group sessions to address his anger and depression.
Almost four years from the day of his release, he walked across the stage at Arizona State University and received his bachelor's degree.
He's now a father, author, business owner and inspirational speaker. Reflecting on his journey, he has realized a few things.
To PLAN YOUR GREATNESS, he believes you must ask yourself three very important questions. When he asked himself these questions, he was a successful high school, college and professional baseball player. When he did not, his life spiraled out of control, and his shortcomings were exposed by the greatest teacher of all. LIFE.
He also learned that prison was a challenging, humbling, as well as the most enlightening experience of his life. Prison also required him to revisit the three questions and he believes this saved his life.
PLAN YOUR GREATNESS, because no one else will.
