He claims her in return with a single brand: gutes Mädchen.

For twenty years he roams palaces and brothels, tasting every pleasure and discovering only an expanding hollow. She waits at the ruin, carrying his stolen bright thing inside her, patient and fierce. When the velvet man finally returns, the bargain unspools with terrible tenderness: her surrender is absolute, and the innocence she alone guards is the only thing that can make him whole.
