Grit Comes in Layers

At twenty-one years old, Ed Ferraro and his lifelong friend Glen set out to ride their bicycles across the United States. They were undertrained, underprepared, and carrying far more belief than experience.

What began as a wild challenge inspired by one question - Can you dare to be great? - became thirty-seven days that tested their bodies, their friendship, their faith, and their willingness to keep moving when quitting would have been easier.

The road humbled them with mountains, storms, brutal heat, relentless headwinds, broken bikes, exhaustion, fear, and moments when the finish line seemed impossibly far away. But it also gave them unexpected kindness, laughter, friendship, unforgettable encounters, and proof that what seems impossible is not always impossible.

More than a cycling story, Grit Comes in Layers is an adventure memoir about perseverance, friendship, belief, and the lessons that emerge when life refuses to go according to plan.

Mile by mile, setback by setback, Ferraro discovers that grit is rarely built in one heroic moment. It forms gradually - through the decision to get up, keep going, and take the next step when there is no guarantee of how the journey will end.

For readers drawn to true adventure, endurance stories, personal transformation, and inspirational memoirs, Grit Comes in Layers is a reminder that sometimes the road you struggle through becomes the road that changes you.
